Chief Edwin Igbokwe has explained how his wife of thirty -one year lived and died saying she’d predicted her own death.
He told Sunday Entertainment moments after he’d received Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola that his wife had told the family she would live only for half a century, adding that any addition to that will be a blessing to the glory of God.
Explaining how his wife died, Chief Igbokwe said “She had been sick for a while but it wasn’t something to be worried about. But two days later we moved her to the Ikeja General hospital for medical observation ans that’s where she was diagnosed with gastro-intestinal disorder.
Moment before she passed on, we observed that she was gasping for breath. When attempts were made to put her on oxygen, she rebuffed the move saying instead it was time to go”.
He however thanked God for the good live she lived saying “it was the responsibility of those she left behind to carry on the good work”.

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola was at the Ikeja, Lagos home of the late Lady of Songs Christy Essien -Igbokwe where he paid glowing tribute to the fallen actress and musician.
Escorted by some top ranking government officials Governor who was received by Chief Edwin Igbokwe husband to the demised star,said “Her death was like a thunderbolt for me. I’ve not been able to come into town. Nobody could think of death in our world and think it’d be Christy Essien. The news just came like a bolt out of the blues.Christy was someone we all seem to know with her songs-she was in our homes, our cars, our bags and in our lives. But suddenly, she’s no more. To say we’ll miss her is an understatement and I can only imagine how the family would cope”.
He further said “She was truly an exemplary singer, a multi-talented leader, a role model in the entertainment industry. She recorded many wonderful and enviable feat. Even though she wasn’t a Yoruba, She chose to sing Seun Rere and this shows how richly blessed she was. Even right from her days in the Masquerade, I’ve known and always appreciated her from childhood.
We must truly appreciate our past leaders and continue to remember them in our fun and memory and our hearts”.

Super star musician, Professor Victor Uwaifo in his tribute to the late Lady of Songs said news of her death came to him as a rude shock.
“She was an actress of very remarkable achievement who dominated the ‘tube’ with her star role as ‘Apeno’ in the 70’s and 80’s Masqurade set.
From acting to music, she contributed to the growth and management of the music industry in Nigeria especially at a time when the industry was entirely dominated by men.
She also blazed the trail as the first woman President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
She will be fondly remembered by all lovers of music and entertainment in Nigeria and beyond. Definitely, she has left her footprints in the sands of time”.
