In the bid to meet the 2012 deadline for digital transition from analogue by the broadcast stations across the country, the Nigerian Film Corporation, NFC, and the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, on Thursday disclosed that the focus of this year’s NFC annual training and capacity building workshop otherwise, known as SHOOT, would empower and equip motion picture practitioners, broadcasters, and professionals in the creative industry for the tasks ahead.
Speaking during media interaction on the forthcoming workshop, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NFC, Mr Afolabi Adesanya said the annual workshop was initiated in response to the need for continuous manpower training and capacity development for Nigeria’s motion picture industry, which was in line with the corporation’s firm belief that keeping with global trends could only be achieved through deliberate efforts at sharpening the skills of the players in the industry.
“ Each edition had focused on important aspects of professional developments of the sector. This year’s edition will focus on the critical issue of digital migration.
This dominates discussions in the broadcast industry, and as a proactive agency, we are concerned as to how this will affect the business and art of production activities for film, television and radio.
“SHOOT 2011 will underscore how this transition can impact on production activities for film, television and radio in Nigeria and prepare practitioners within the sector for the challenges inherent in the transition”, he explained, stressing that necessary steps have been taken to achieve the 2012 deadline set by the NBC, in line with the International Communications Commission, ICC’s deadline for final migration by the year 2015.
Also speaking, the Director-General, NBC, Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, represented by the Ag. Director, Broadcast and Content, Mrs Bunmi Cole, said what attracted NBC to collaborate with NFC on the workshop was the issue of content development, which she stressed was very necessary for digital migration.
She reiterated her commission’s readiness to assist broadcast stations to develop their programme contents.
