Nigeria first choice goalie out of AAG clash

The Nigeria Olympic team will miss the services of first choice goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye in this weekend’s 2011 All Africa Games qualifier against Ghana’s Black Meteors.

The shot stopper is yet to recover from a shoulder injury he sustained during the first leg held in Benin City a fortnight ago.

The goalie, who plays for Spanish third-tier side, Pontavendra has been ruled out action for three weeks by paramedics, making him unavailable for the crucial second leg clash.

The medical team of the Dream Team V has advised the goalie to stay out of action to risk aggravating the injury after series of tests.

In his place, Femi Thomas of Ocean Boys is expected to hold the fort in the absence of the Spanish.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars goalie Theophilus Afelokhia has been called up as the second choice goalie.

Afelokhia was voted the best goalie in the Nigeria Premier League in 2009 but has yet to translate that performance into the national team.

Nigeria won the first 3-1 and must avoid a two-goal margin victory to book their place for the finals of the 10th edition of the All African scheduled for 3-18 September in Maputo, Mozambique.
