For hours, guests and fans alike whooped, cheered and danced like crazy as Whiz Kid; the twenty one year old bundle of talent performed live on stage at his debut album launch tagged Wiz Kid- the super star held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and suites; Expo Hall.
As Whiz Kid appeared on stage, guests inside the hall jumped from their seats in a roar of applause before the wonder kid began dishing out hit after hit from his new album. It was a night of wild celebration as many of those standing never got back on their seats again; they danced the entire night through.
The launch no doubt had come with a lot of expectations and perhaps a note or two of skepticism from some quarters but Whiz Kid had appeared and delivered; making it a night many would not forget in a hurry.
As expected, titans and the who is who in the Nigerian entertainment scene rocked the venue. From top notch comedians to A list actors and musicians. Popular entries had been made by the wife of the Lagos state governor; Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, Whiz Kid’s immediate family and then artistes like Dbanj who had made a good number of female fans scream with what should be lust.
Already, many agree that this Whiz Kid’s sixteen track album is a bulls eye. Every song on it is a head turner as was clearly evident when fans yelled and danced to the beats as some of them struck stage for the very first time.
The first 3 tracks: Say my name, No lele and Scatter the floor; will definitely get you spontaneously moving in your seats. The producers had given the beats their all and it is really a good effort. As for the second song “No Lele”, it is a typical Wizkid song, enriched with steady rhythmic style which die hard fans will find difficult not to love.
The songs Say my name, No lele and Scatter the floor were Produced by E. Kelly, Masterkraft and Jay Sleek respectively. Pakurumo and Slow Whine are tracks in which he featured his mentor and CEO of EME music Olubankole Wellington aka Banky W.
Other songs include Scatter the floor, Love My Baby, Gidi Girl and Oluwa Lo Ni. Mohit crew super stars Wande Coal and D’Prince had featured in For Me and Wad Up respectively. The album is a fantastic commercial album that many will easily liken to a Chris Brown’s album where you could pull easily pull a lot of number 1 singles from. It is good enough to keep Wizkid’s buzz alive for a long time, so long as he is managed well. The maturity he showed was of vet quality and the production was on point.
Before the show proper, the red carpet had buzzed endlessly with celebrities repeatedly nudged and cornered at every turn by paparazzi holding either a flashing camera or a customized microphone shoved in their faces.
It is an attention many of them enjoyed especially a list celebrities that briefly basked in the glare before promptly escaping into the hall. For some others however it wasn’t to be so. One case had a very popular female comedian that we all know who hung on the red carpet like forever allowing paparazzi to catch up and do interviews. The strategy was to stand within view of media crews she would be instantly recognized and invited over. When the trick stopped working, she refused to go but rather remained on the carpet, to chat and laugh with anyone that as much as waved at her.
All in all, the album launch had lived up to the echo it’s publicity. Whiz Kid had appeared, strutted his lyrical guts on stage, stamped his name hard in everyone’s mind and delivered a blazing hot performance.
